Originally published

A Libyan suspect charged with participating in a bombing of the night club "La Belle" in West Berlin in 1986 stated before a court in Berlin that he participated only in making a fake bomb. He confessed that he sent it with the German suspect Verina Shana, the spouse of Palestinian suspect Aly Shana, and her sister Andrea Horsleider.

The Libyan suspect, Mesbaa Abdel Kassem, repeated his earlier statements that another group consisting of two Italians and a Libyan placed the real bomb that caused the explosion which killed two American officers and a Turkish woman in addition to injuring other 250 persons.

Mesbah added that Verina Shana took the fake bomb from East Berlin to West Berlin and that she was not aware that the bomb she was carrying was fake.

Mesbah Abdel Kassem was a former diplomat in the Libyan Embassy in East Berlin. The fifth suspect, Yaser Al Sheridy, was also an employee at the Libyan Embassy in West Berlin during that time. The German prosecutor had charged five suspects with bombing the night club on instructions issued from Libya.
