Syria wins World Cup T-shirt contract
The Syrian state-owned al-Sharq (Orient) company has scored a contract to provide some six million shirts for the 1998 World Cup in France, at a joint venture cooperation between the country's private and joint sectors.
The Syrian company was adopted as a manufacturer for the T-shirts because of "the appropriate prices and good quality of Syrian textiles," which knocked out several competing Asian bids to have the contract.
