Chain thief arrested

Police in Kom Hamada nabbed a man accused of snatching gold chains from female passersby, security sources said yesterday.

They said that women had reported a number of theft incidents in which a motorcycle rider would snatch their necklaces and escape, Al-Ahram daily said today.

Police added the sources placed plain clothed detectives in crowded areas, and arrested the man after he tried to snatch a chain from a schoolgirl.

The police named the culprit as Mohamad Ibrahim Khater, an ex-convict, and detained him for four days pending further questioning.
