Student committees in Morocco call for protest gathering Wednesday

Originally published

Two Moroccan student committees called for a protest gathering next Wednesday. In a joint statement, the student committees of the Union Students and the Students of Justice and Charity, who are offshoots of the National Union of Morocco's Students, said that this gathering is going to be organized in the Moroccan universities under the slogan "Defending the Dignity of the Campus, the Students and the Work of the Student's Syndicate." The gathering will be followed by a press conference that will discuss recent developments in Moroccan universities.

The two student committees called for an immediate halt to the violations of the constitution, laws, and freedoms of universities, in a reference to the various confrontations which many faculties witnessed in the previous period.

On the other hand, university sources confirmed that there is much exaggeration in the description of those confrontations as the security forces had to interfere in many case to maintain the security of the place.

There was a severe dispute between the students and a university official over the rumors of the death of one student in Fez, but university sources there ruled out the possibility that one of its students was killed.
