2 brothers jailed for killing teacher

Originally published

The Aswan-upper Egypt criminal court condemned two brothers to seven-year imprisonment terms for killing a teacher.

The story begins on January 1, 1997 when the teacher had a quarrel with the two convicts, over the ownership of a land in a remote village in the governorate.

They failed to settle the dispute through peaceful means and accordingly referred the whole matter to the court.

On the day of the crime, the teacher, Mustafa Abdel Basset, after an argument with the two brothers' uncle, punched the uncle on the ear in front of his nephews. Feeling that their family's honor had been harmed by the teacher, the two brothers decided to kill him. They waited for the teacher late into night while he was returning home, stabbed him several times and fled the scene.

Passers-by carried him to a nearby hospital where he died shortly after arrival, the police were informed.

Investigations revealed that uncle was not aware of the whole affair and that it was his nephews who committed the crime. They were arrested and then referred to prosecution, Al Ahram daily said today.
