Algerian government bans demonstrations
The Algerian government stopped demonstrations and adopted tough measures to prevent the rallies of the Parliament members and students in front of the headquarters of the Gathering for Culture and Democracy Party.
The Algerian authorities also prevented the 5 opposition parties which protested the results of the election from organizing demonstrations in the Algerian capital, Algiers.
The General Syndicates Union rejected the call for a general strike and stressed the importance of maintaining order in the country. In a statement, the union stated that it is its responsibility to calm everyone down instead of opting to test its power.
