Lebanese woman injured in south Lebanon
Israeli planes raided suspected guerrilla positions in south Lebanon Sunday after an attack by Hezbollah guerrillas on an Israeli patrol injured a Lebanese civilian, security sources said
.
The sources said the Israeli warplanes fired two air-to-surface missiles at Hezbollah positions in Iqlim al-Tuffah, a mountainous area facing an Israeli-occupied border strip in south Lebanon
.
There were no casualties in the raid, which came few hours after Hezbollah guerrillas ambushed an Israeli patrol traveling near the village of Rihan on the edge of the border zone, wounding a Lebanese woman in the area
.
Sunday's incidents capped a week of violence in the volatile region of south Lebanon between Israeli troops and Lebanese guerrillas
.
On Saturday, two civilians were wounded by Israeli shelling in the western Bekaa region. Hussein Issa and Salman Abdallah suffered moderate injuries when Israeli troops unexpectedly opened fire on their village, the sources said
.
The civilian injuries violated a U.S.-brokered truce which halted an Israeli offensive against Hezbollah guerrillas in April 1996. The understanding prohibits attacks against civilians on both sides of the border.
