The Algerian Chief of Staff Colonel Mohamed Al Amary confirmed that there are constant efforts to restore security in a decisive way and that Algeria is moving steadily toward a normal way of life.

Al Amary said that the objective evaluation of the security situation necessitates comparing it the situation prevailing some years ago. He added that there is tangible improvement, as those events where criminals were attacking the institutions and the police forces are not heard of. It remains to stop those criminals from attacking Algerian civilians.

The Chief of Staff denied that the Algerian army could be involved in the massacres. He pointed out that the army is struggling for the Algerians' right to live and that the army is a republican one committed to preserving democracy and protecting human rights in front of the most horrible and barbaric powers of darkness in the history.

He confirmed that such rumors are designed to cause a rift between the army and the people and to undermine stability through misleading information coming from abroad.

The Algerian colonel did not rule out the existence of some transgressions by some individuals who act on their own, but he stated that there is prompt investigation of each case as these violations are few and cannot affect the reputation of the army.

Al Amary also denied that the recent massacres are a reflection of the strength of terrorism in Algeria, he clarified that terrorism has its allies internally however the security situation has improved.
