Qatar and UAE agree to statement condemning European Parliament's stance
A statement issued in Doha by the ministers at the end of a meeting said the applications of Islamic Sharia have shown that they ensure secure and stable conditions, achieve welfare for communities and individuals in all economic, cultural and social fields and deter rimes.
The two countries agreed after prolonged discussions between the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC Gamil Al Hogailan and the Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Gassem Al Thani and the UAE Minister of Justice Sheikh Mohamed Nakhira.
Al Hogailan said that there was great understanding and things went the way he wanted. The Minister of Justice of the Gulf Cooperation Council had suspended their meetings held in Doha last week without issuing any statement due to Qatar's reservations over a draft project submitted by the UAE in which it criticized the European Parliament's statement.
Similar statements have been issued before by some international organisations against Bahrain and other GCC member states for passing sentences against individuals who did harm to their homeland, the statement said.
It was agreed to issue a statement that called on the European Parliament and other international "organisations to respect the rules of and verdicts of the GCC countries and not to "interfere with their internal judicial affairs."
