Egypt pays early because of Arab dead-beats

Originally published

The Arab League received a check of L.E. 4 million from Egypt which represents half of its share to the secretariat-general of the Arab League for the upcoming year due to be paid in January 1998.

Egypt’s initiative to pay its share before it is due came on the request of the Arab League’s secretariat-general and due to the difficult financial circumstances that face the League as many of the Arab countries did not pay their shares of the budget of the League for the current year and previous years.

It is worth mentioning that many of the activities of the Arab League were affected by these financial difficulties in addition to the fact the many of the Arab League’ employees did not get their salaries for the month of September.
