Baalbek public park reopens with Japanese help
Efforts to revive the Baalbek area were given a boost on October 19 as the Raas al Ain park was inaugurated by the Japanese ambassador to Lebanon.
The park's rehabilitation project was sponsored by Japan's Grass Roots Grant aid program with United Nations assistance.
"Like other cities, Baalbek has various needs in important areas of development, such as the environment, public welfare and primary health care," the ambassador said. Nasser Al Farjani, director of the United Nations program, said that the total cost of the rehabilitation of the area will be $112 million US, of which $13 million US has already been provided.
