Renovating the Tunisian fleet ignites competition between Airbus and Boeing

Originally published

Tunisian sources in the field of civil aviation mentioned that the decision of Tunisian Airlines to renovate its fleet through buying 19 new planes ignited strong competition between the main manufacturers of passenger planes, the US Boeing and European Airbus companies, in a bid to gain the purchase contract.

Sources expected that the Tunisian Airlines will buy from both the American and the European companies, though Airbus has stated that it will take the biggest portion of the deal. The Tunisian fleet consists of 24 planes, 15 of which are Boeings of different sizes and 9 of which are built by Airbus. The 24 planes will remain in service after being adapted to meet the environmental protection requirements demanded by European airports.

Recent statistics shows the Tunisian Airlines profits rose by about 76% ($24.3 million).
