More than 100 people, including three top officers, were killed recently in fighting between government forces and rebels in southern Sudan, a pro-government newspaper report today. The Alwan daily said that more than 100 people in the southern province of west Equataria were killed in military operations, including the head of the popular defense forces and two heads of security departments.

The paper, quoting the province's Governor Col. Khabil Mohamed Sadeq, said the three slain officers were leaders of forces in western Equatoria, Al Khartoum daily said today.
