Mobutu buried in Rabat

Originally published

Mobutu Sesi Seko, 66, the ex-Zairian president, who was exiled in Morocco, was buried yesterday in Rabat, the Moroccan capital, in a tiny family ceremony.

Mobutu, who died last Sunday in the Fifth Military Hospital after losing a long battle with prostate cancer, lost his country to a rebel leader "Kabela."

Zairian radio has completely ignored Mobutu's death in all its bulletins, Al Ahrar daily said today. Many sources indicate that Mobutu has plundered the countries' wealth during his rule and used it for personal gain. He was noted by some magazines to be one of the wealthiest individuals in the world.
