Demonstrations and more arrests in occupied Golan
Israeli occupation troops on August 31 arrested four citizens from Majdal Shams in the occupied Syrian Golan, after they protested against the Israeli court verdict providing for the extension of the detention of Syrian student Elham Abu Saleh. Saleh's detention was extended for five days.
Saleh's uncle, Ali Abu Jabal, indicated that there is strong support from the local citizens to his niece, and said that she is viewed as representing the national sentiments in the Golan.
The student's lawyer, Nabih Khanjar, said that the Israeli occupation authorities imposed drastic measures on Saleh to force her to admit the allegations directed against her, in spite of her denial of all these allegations. Khanjar said that Israeli authorities continued to prevent the student's relatives and lawyers from seeing her.
Meanwhile people of occupied Syrian Golan resumed demonstrations in condemnation of Saleh's detention, which began last Monday. Majdal Shams youths staged protests blocking the main entrance of Masaada, setting fire to tires and throwing stones at the road.
