Martial court requests death sentences for Egyptian refugees in UK

Originally published

The Egyptian Higher Martial Court will hold a hearing tomorrow of the Khan El Khalili case, in which 84 members of Al Gihad organization are charged, including Dr. Ayman El Zawahry, the leader of the organization. Also included in the 84 are two leaders of the organization, Adel Abel Meguid and Ahmed El Sayed Nasar who live in the UK as political refugees.

The court held its first session on this case on August 17, during which the martial prosecution attorney read the list of charges. The charges to Abel Meguid and El Nagar include their orders to the organization members in Cairo to assassinate two officials and to detonate explosives in the Khan El Khalili district.

One of the arrested is Akram Al Sherif, a British citizen of Egyptian origin who was arrested in 1995 and was charged with transferring money and orders from Abdel Meguid to the organization's members in Egypt.

It is expected that Abel Meguid and El Nagar will get the severest sentences, possibly a death sentence, as their charges are cited in the terrorism taw. The terrorism law imposes the death sentence on those who form and run the clandestine armed organizations if their crimes are accompanied by the criminal collaboration to commit premeditated murders.
