Jihad, Hamas reiterate attitude against Oslo

Secretary General of the Palestinian National Resistance Movement "Islamic Jihad," Ramadan Shalah, reiterated the movement's firm and unwavering stand against the Oslo accords, and the Palestinian people's legitimate right to resist Israel's occupation.

In an interview with Monte Carlo Radio broadcast on August 20, Shalah said such a stand is the basis for any meeting or dialogue with other Palestinian forces.

The Oslo accords constitute a dilemma for the Palestinian people, the Jihad leader said, adding that his movement is prepared to defend the Palestinians and to protect them.

Meanwhile, a representative of Hamas movement, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Rantisi, has called on the Palestinian Authority to reconsider the Oslo agreements.

"This pact has proved inefficient in achieving the Palestinian people's rights and harmed its unity," Al Rantisi added in the national dialogue conference in which all Palestinian factions took part. Dr. Al Rantisi called for cementing national unity amongst the Palestinian people on the basis of giving public freedoms, political plurality and immediately setting free of all detainees in the Palestinian Authority's jails.

Dr. Al Rantisi stressed that Hamas has some suspicion that Arafat has organized yesterday's "national unity" conference just to boost his position, and that he is waiting for the right time to get rid of his opponents.
