American fund to the agricultural Lebanese sector

Originally published

American advisors are coming to Lebanon to study solutions to problems in the agriculture sector, said Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Shawki Fakhoury.

In the UN on an eight day official visit, Fakhoury on August 20 announced an agreement with American officials to provide Lebanon with at least 10 million US dollars in funding for various agricultural projects next year.

Fakhoury, who held a series of talks this week with officials from exporters, cooperatives and cereal associations, also announced efforts to set up direct assistance between American and Lebanese farmers, similar to an ongoing program between the US and Egypt.

Fakhoury, who is in the US to sign purchase agreements for 3,000 dairy cows as part of a bilateral assistance program, is scheduled to meet officials from the Import-Export Bank and visit three agricultural states--Virginia, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
