Suez Canal suspension bridge construction planned
Construction has been planned for a major Suez Canal bridge project. Two Egyptian construction companies will set up the east and west causeways and other construction works while Japanese companies will build the main bridge, which will be 70 meters high.
The bridge would permit the passage of giant ships in the waterway, Soliman Metwali, Egyptian minister of transport, said.
Japan's government is expected to approve a grant, earmarked to build the suspension bridge, later this month.
He added the Japanese will contribute 60 percent of the cost of building the bridge, expected to reach LE 570 million. Work would start in October.
