Food poisoning hits 35 in Saudi Arabia
Representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia met on August 4 and decided on the punishment for workers that were responsible for a recent outbreak of food poising in Jeddah.
They decided that the workers, who caused the food poising of 35 people that fell sick after eating food prepared in their restaurant, be arrested until the victims were treated. Dr. Talat Ikram, assistant director of health affairs in Jeddah, said that the restaurants failed to observe health regulations, leading to the situation whereby its workers communicated infections from their bodies to the customers during food preperations.
He pointed out that the municipality has ordered one owner to pay a fine of 19,000 riyal Saudi.
It is also expected that the restaurant will be asked to compensate the food poising victims.
