Egypt pledges Afro-Arab identity for Nilesat
Minister Sherif said the Egyptian satellite Nilesat will provide specialized channels on education and culture, youth, women, and sports, which will help deepen Egyptian citizens' awareness of their civilization.
He said that the Arab world is in dire need of new satellites capable of facing the global changes in the communication sector, and the satellite will help Arabs meet the international competition in communications technology.
Minister Sherif said Nilesat is scheduled to be launched in January, and will serve as a lingua franca with the Western world.
He stated that the next satellite will be African Nilesat, following the recommendations of the African media ministers who met recently in Egypt.
He said that Egypt is currently working out technical changes to the satellite to accommodate African purposes.
