Woman gives birth to quintuplets in Saudi Arabia

Originally published

An Egyptian woman married to a Saudi gave birth to quintuplets, two boys and three girls, in Riyadh on July 12 after being treated for several months for infertility.

The babies were delivered by a caesarean operation seven months into the pregnancy, as the mother's womb had become overcrowded.

The father of the five babies, Ahmed Ibrahim Bamawi 34, works as an assistant pharmacist at the Ministry of Health. Dr. Faiz Marzouq, consultant at the neo-natal clinic at the Al Ahmadi hospital, said a team consisting of four doctors and five nurses handled the operation. He said the five babies were in good health, but as a precautionary measure were put on an artificial respiratory system and heart activation treatment immediately after delivery.

Dr. Marzouq said that the chances of all five babies surviving despite their premature births were good.
