Islam not enemy to West

Originally published

Today, the 9th International Islamic conference entitled "Islam and the West: Past, Present and Future" ends its session in Cairo after 4 days of discussions.

Coptic and Muslim Scholars and intellectuals stressed Islam is not an enemy to the West. "All people are responsible for peaceful co-existence, and a dignified happy life," they said.

The conference made it clear that it's in the interest of neither Muslims nor the West to mobilize mutual hostility; each party cannot confront international problems alone.

Participants called for the establishment of a Westernalist college, like the existing Orientalist one. It aims to prepare a generation specialized in Western civilization and to serve the West's interests through studying Islamic customs, traditions and values.

Abul-Maged, a well-known Islamic intellectual, said mass-media should play a greater role in revealing to the world that Muslims are peoples of peace, not violence as anit-Islam propaganda shows.
