Kuwait calls for a serious stand to protect Jerusalem

Kuwaiti minister of Justice, Awqaf and Isalmic Affairs Mohammed Dheifallah Shara called on July 13 on Muslims to adopt a "serious stand" to safeguard Jerusalem and its Islamic shrines.

Sharar, speaking to the Kuwaiti news agency on the sidelines of the 9th

International Islamic Conference which opened in Cairo on July 12 under the theme "Islam and the West," said that Kuwait had an eminent role in

safeguarding Jerusalem and collecting funds to assist its people.

He underlined the importance of holding such a conference during this difficult period to respond to the Israeli desecration of the Islamic shrines.

He urged the conferees to condemn "by deeds and words" whatever causes harm to Islam and its sanctities.

Sharar had said that Arabs and Muslims should clarify the "real image" of Islam as a religion of peace and forgiveness.

"This image must be clarified for the West so there can be correct understanding of the reality of the Islamic world and to drive away all doubts directed against it and also to confront the unjustified attack that the Islamic world comes under," Sharar told reporters.

During the four-day gathering, participants will discuss several key issues, particularly the history of Islam-West links, the two sides and correcting the image of Islam in the Western media.

Sharar said the humanitarian issue of Kuwaiti POWs held in Iraqi jails for more than 6 years will be part of the recommendations as their detention is against our shared religion. He indicated that Kuwait has been active in the committees assigned to work out the decisions of the conference.
