Israel holding Lebanon as pawns, says Amnesty
Amnesty International accused Israel yesterday of unlawfully holding Lebanese nationals to use to as bargaining chips with Islamic militia groups.
In Jerusalem Israeli officials defended holding the prisoners, calling them "terrorists" who threatened the Jewish state’s sovereignty.
The human rights organization said some detainees had been held for up to 12 years without charges or trials, and with no information on when they would be released.
"It is unacceptable that a state should continue to hold human beings as pawns, autopsied any legal framework," Amnesty said in a statement.
