Power accord signed with Jordan
Minister of Electricity and Energy Maher Abaza said yesterday that the ministry had completed construction of the giant electrical cable crossing Sinai four months ahead of schedule.
Minister Abaza pointed out that work was underway to complete the transformer stations in Taba and Suez. The ministry was also building four large towers, each 220 meters high, equipped with lifts and warning signals.
Minister Abaza added that construction of the giant 13 kilometer marine cable, linking the Taba transformer station with the power plant in the Jordanian seaport of Aqaba, was nearly completed.
Costs for the cable reached 60 million US dollars.
"The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development is financing the Egyptian-Jordanian Project with 50 million dollars, and each country will bear the costs of the line in their territories and will share the costs of the Marine cable," he noted.
