Kuwait, Yemen healing broken ties
A Kuwaiti delegation including two former ministers arrived in Yemen on July 7, in a sign of improving ties with Arab states accused of siding with Iraq after the 1990 invasion.
The team of five academics and intellectuals was invited to Yemen by the Arab Center for Strategic Studies, a private institute based in Damascus and chaired by the former president of South Yemin, Ali Nasser Mohammed. North and South Yemen were united in 1990.
Kuwait's acting prime minister and foreign minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah said in June that normalization with certain Arab countries "which adopted a pro-Iraqi stance will take place in the near future." The northern Gulf oil producer was a key aid donor to Yemen, one of the world's poorest countries, before the invasion.
