Police in El-Wadi El-Gadeed (The New Valley) district arrested an employee last Friday accused of stealing LE 12,000 from a colleague’s house, a security source said.

Ali Maher Sideek, 22, confessed to sneaking into his friend’s place when he was out and finding a briefcase full of banknotes that totaled LE 36,000. But he took only LE 12,000 and left the remainder.

"I wanted that amount of money only for an urgent matter and did not want all of it,” the source quoted Ali as telling the police, who detained him for four days pending further interrogations.
