Originally published

Syrian plastics artist George Francis will take part in an exhibition between two Italian and Greek cities.

Francis will also respond to the invitation of UNESCO to take part in an international cultural event due to be held in Greece, where he will display six panels.

The artist has been actively taking part in collective exhibitions since 1980. He started his participation in Italy in several exhibitions in different Italian cities besides those held in Ankara and Sofia.

He said that woman, as represented in his work, is the soil, homeland, beloved, and friend in both the human and sentimental meanings.

The artist's panels touch different subjects to leave varied impressions on the spectator's soul. He derives themes from daily sights and chooses what he finds suitable to deal with in an artistic work.

A lengthy study about Francis' works of and views about art will be published shortly in an Italian magazine.

Born in Damascus in 1951, Francis quickly showed precocious talent in drawing good and beautiful pictures. He has gained ground as a distinguished Syrian artist because of his rich experience and peculiar paintings. He was awarded several Arab and international prizes, the latest of which was conferred upon him last month in Rome.
