Olmert says he is 'ashamed' of settlers violence
Israeli Acting Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert described, Sunday, settler's violence in Hebron as "pogrom" a word mostly used to describe attacks against Jews in Europe.
Olmert said before his Cabinet that the attacks have "no name other than pogrom" and that as a Jew; he was "ashamed" to see Jews shooting fire at Palestinians in Hebron.
Meantime, the Israeli Ministry Of Foreign Affairs reported that "The Prime Minister has made it clear that the Government will not allow any elements whatsoever to harm democracy and the rule of law, and added that any attempt by violent elements to attack the Palestinian population and cause unrest in Judea and Samaria will be met with a sharp and immediate response by the security establishment." The ministry had said "The Judea region, in its entirety, is now being declared a closed military zone by the Judea and Samaria Regional Division Commander, Brig. Gen. Noam Tibon. Non-residents will be forbidden from entering the region."
Ongoing violent attacks perpetrated by Jewish settlers against Palestinians citizens and property has reached an unprecedented level in the West Bank. According to Palestinian Monitor's review, violence in Hebron has reached its climax this week after settlers were evacuated from Al-Rajbi's family house in the Old City of Hebron, where about 600-800 Jewish settlers have settled, and additional several thousands live in surrounding settlements.
Olmert added that he ordered the Israeli Defense Minister, Ehud Barack, to do all that he can to put an end to these attacks.
