Iran criticizes Petraeus-Crocker reports on Iraq

Originally published

Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said on Wednesday that the recent report released by the US Ambassador to Baghdad Ryan Crocker and Commander of US troops in Iraq General David Petreaus was full of contradictions.

Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters, he said it seems that Iraq today needs accountability than any thing else.

The scenario was well-designed and orchestrated but they should know that after a while they should be accountable to the Iraqi people, he said.

The report not only fell short of demonstrating Iraq's real image but also it depicted a dramatic image of the war-shattered country, he said.

Since President Bush visited Iraq recently, the Americans have tried to depict a desirable image of the country which totally runs counter to the realities, he said.

The report is full of lies and contradictions, he underlined.

They recently condemned formation of a coalition among Iraqi political groups but in this report they said the coalition was formed thanks to their own efforts.

"You should not get the credit for coalition among Iraqi groups, rather other factors were behind its formation," he said.

Despite faked reports issued by the US, Iran believed in democracy in Iraq from the beginning and it was the first country to support democratic process in that country, he said.

The US has turned Iraq into a military marketplace, he said, adding that they should tell that Iraqi people how many hospitals, schools and health centers have been constructed by them for the Iraqi nation.

"Iran supplies Iraq with drinking water and electricity but what have you brought for the Iraqi people?" he questioned.

"You play a key role in causing sectarian rifts among the Iraqi people," he underlined.
