EU to continue support to Iraq to stabilize it

The European Union said Thursday it shares the concerns expressed Wednesday by US President George W. Bush regarding the ongoing violence and daily bloodshed in Iraq, and emphasized the EU's commitment to a secure, stable and united Iraq.

"The European Union will continue to support the Iraqi Government in its efforts to reconstruct and stabilize the country, and stands prepared to extend this commitment to the extent that the security situation on the ground allows this," it said. "The key to a united, federal and democratic Iraqi nation lies first and foremost with the people of Iraq themselves," the statement by the current German EU Presidency said.
