Continued efforts against with Iran for nuclear issue

Originally published

European Union High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana stressed Wednesday that Iran's nuclear issue will be solved through negotiations.

"I'm convinced that the Iranian dossier can only be solved, and will be solved, through negotiations. We have the right framework and the right broad basis for that," Solana told the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels Wednesday afternoon.

"Iran will develop a civilian nuclear program as many other countries in the world. And Iran will do it better and more efficiently if it is done in cooperation with us. From a political and technological point of view both sides have a lot to win. They, and we, know that," he said.

Solana said that he and his Iranian counterpart have been negotiating Iran's nuclear dossier for endless hours.

"Dialogue cannot last forever. It is up to them to decide whether the time has come to follow the second track. But the door to negotiations is always open," he stated.

Solana remarked that "Iran is an old, wise nation, a key partner in regional and world affairs. The nuclear issue is just one element, even if it is a key one, of a much broader relationship." "We want to cooperate with Iran in other subjects, not least the Middle East, and we should do irrespective of the ups and downs in the nuclear issue."

However today, the LA Times indicated that today's meeting by the UN Security Members with veto power plus Germany may move the discussion back to the UN Security Council, "with a joint statement after talks in London that they were 'deeply disappointed' by Tehran's refusal to suspend uranium enrichment."

Previous efforts, mainly led by the US and Europeans to muster needed support against Iran for sanctions resolution these countries want against Iran, have failed.

The LA Times said "Apparently divided about how quickly to move, the envoys stopped short of explicitly declaring European negotiations with Iran a failure, as some had expected them to do." Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad yesterday hoped that the Europeans will seize the opportunity created by the Islamic Republic of Iran and return to the right track.

US Department Of State spokesman Tom Casey today said the US is "having discussions on this issue really, literally, on a daily basis. As I said, Nick Burns has been in contact with his counterparts at the political directors level fairly consistently throughout this process. I'm sure those kinds of conversations will continue. And I believe as she said on the plane, there is an expectation that because of the somewhat truncated nature of this meeting that there'll probably be an opportunity sometime next week or over the weekend for the ministers to consult together by phone."

The US and some EU countries have rejected to enter into negotiations with Iran unless Iran first suspends making nuclear fuel.

Addressing enthusiastic people in Firouzkouh, he said the Iranians are a peaceful nation seeking to deal with the problems through negotiations.

This honorable nation has given another chance to their malevolent enemies to revise their deeds by overlooking their wrongdoings in the past 27 years, he said.

"We hope the European countries would seize the opportunity as granted and revise their wrong policies," he said.

"We believe that some of big powers are ignorant to ethics and justice, they do not believe that affection and kindness is much better than violence, they cannot believe that pen, thought and culture would be much better than weapon and nuclear bomb," he said.

The colonial powers posed threat to free nations and when they become disappointed from military threats they seek to impose economic sanctions against them, he said.

He referred to the crimes and atrocities of the Zionists and their American supporters in Palestine, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Iraq as good examples of this.

Underlining the fact that Iranian nation are peace-seeking and advocates of dialogue, he said the Iranian nation would under no circumstances yield to bullying powers and would never turn back from the proper course they have embarked on.

The Iranian nation is free, dignified and invincible and those who seek to trample on their rights through intimidation or sanctions are mistaken, he said.

The day before, Ahmadi-Nejad said that Iran's enemies presume that, after failing to achieve their goals through pressure, they can manage to do it through talks, adding that they should be aware that Iranians will not be deceived. The US and EU are trying to force Iran to halt making nuclear fuel as a condition of entering negotiation, a condition which Iran rejects.

Ahmadi-Nejad said that as the Iranians are taking gradual steps towards development, they are about to achieve final victory.

Turning to great loss inflicted on the adversaries of Iranian nation, he said that through propagandist tools as well resorting to secondary and misleading issues, they intend to create discord.

The president added that however, they should be aware that they are doomed to fail.

"On the pretext of preventing Iran's access to nuclear weapons, they are even reluctant to supply to Iran pressing devices used in auto gas cylinder production," he added.

Ahmadi-Nejad turned to the enemies and said, "Given that the Iranian nation succeeded in producing rockets despite your sanctions, it will also manufacture the required pressing devices." Underlining that the Iranians seek peace and are in favor of holding talks, he addressed the nation's ill-wishers and said that if they presume that Iran will give up its course to full use of nuclear energy, they are mistaken.
