USA vetoes UN SC draft resolution for ending Israeli attacks on Gaza
The USA vetoed yesterday a draft resolution at the UN Security Council calling for an end to Israeli attacks and "disproportionate use of force" in the Gaza Strip.
French Ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sabliere, the Council's President said the Security Council resolution received 10 votes, one against from the United States with four abstentions.
The draft resolution, circulated by Qatar on behalf of Arab States accused Israel of a ''disproportionate use of force'' that endangered Palestinian civilians, and it demanded Israel withdraw its troops from Gaza.
The US has been seen is the only protector of the Israeli acts of international law, the Geneva convention, by the US use or threats of using its veto power at the UN Security Council to protect Israel.
Switzerland as recently as days ago said Israel's attacks on civilians are a violation of international humanitarian law, which means a violation of the Geneva Convention. The UN civil rights committee has voted to start an investigation into Israel's actions.
