In an interview with al-Jazeera satellite TV, the chairman of the Socialist Progressive Party in Lebanon Walid Junblat renewed his position in demanding the resignation of president Emil Lahoud, and confronting the Syrian influence in Lebanon. He also loomed on dismantling the weapons of Hizbullah party.

Junblat considered that Lahoud represents a security and political extension for Syria, noting that the selection of the new Lebanese president will be the responsibility of the Maronite patriarch Nasrullah Sfeir who he said constitutes the main reference in this regard.

The Druze leader said via "open dialogue" program broadcast by al-Jazeera TV on Saturday evening that Shabaa Farms are the main difference in Lebanon at the meantime. But he indicated that this issue can be solved without the existence of weapons with Hizbullah as that Lebanon can not just stay in suspended mode until this question is solved.

Junblat who returned back from Washington after a visit to the USA refused Lebanon "to remain the only ring for the conflict with Israel." He called for clinging to the Lebanese truce with Israel of 1949.
