Originally published

The Iraqi prime minister whose term of office has expired, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, said on Wednesday that the Shiite United Iraqi Coalition list has not settled yet the question of choosing its candidate for assuming the post of prime minister.

The statement quoted Jaafari as saying during his meeting with Masoud al-Barazani, the chairman of Kurdistan district, currently in Baghdad, that the "question of settling the issue of the candidate of the coalition for the Cabinet is a matter that has been left so far for the coalition."

He explained that dialogue is continuous with all sides, noting that there are more than one candidate. Jaafari stressed that the "coming days will witness the nomination of the candidate," announcing his backing for the "final option decided by the coalition." Worthy mentioning that there are four candidates for the United Coalition List for the post of the prime minister. They are Jafaari from the Islamic Call Party, Adel Abdul Mahdi (The Higher Council For The Islamic Revolution In Iraq), Nadin al-Jabiri ( al-Fadila party) and Hussein al-Shahristani from (The Independents Bloc).

On the other hand, Jaafari stressed that the coalition wants Masoud al-Barazani to contribute with others "in forming a national unity government in which all political parties stand side by side to reach common ambitions."

For his part, Maosud al-Barazani stressed his "total and continued support for the political operation and for forming a national unity government."
