The Kuwaiti cabinet unanimously chose its prime minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah as a ruler for the country in succession for Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah

This was expressed during a meeting for the Cabinet held following immediately the Ummah council (parliament) session. The Kuwaiti minister of justice Ahmad Baqer al-Abdullah announced that an official statement to this nomination will be submitted today to the parliament for ratification on the appointment in preparation for the new ruler to take his constitutional oath.

This came after the parliament unanimously voted for the impeachment of crown prince and ruler-to-be Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah because of his poor health condition. The chairman of the Ummah council ( speaker of parliament) Jasem al-Khurafi said in a statement that the council has deliberately learnt from the health report read during the session, that proved that the ruler of Kuwait has lost his health capabilities, and then it agreed to remove him according to article 3 of the law provides for the inheritance of the Ruler.

Al-Khurafi added that the parliament decided with its 65 full members to transfer the authorities of the ruler of the country to the Cabinet until a new ruler for the country is chosen, according to article four of the same law.

Al-Khurafi explained that the letter provides for the resignation of Sheikh Saad arrived late after they had voted on this issue. A matter which was confirmed by several parliamentarians. Khurafi expected a session for the parliament to be convened Sunday or Monday in front of which the new Ruler will take oath.
