Objection increase to results of Iraqi elections
The representatives of 35 Iraqi groups representing Sunni, Shiite and secular trends decided to form a joint operations chamber to demand the international community reconsider the results of the recent legislative elections and carry out new elections.
These political trends escalated their protests over the declared results, and scores of thousands of Iraqis took the streets in a massive demonstration on Friday after Friday's prayers in Baghdad, Musil, Sameraa and Tikrit in protest of the partial results of the elections which indicated the winning of the list of the United Iraqi Coalition in Baghdad and nine governorates in the south.
Adnan al-Duleimi, the known figure in the Iraqi al-Tawafuk Front said in a speech before the protesters "they wanted to use these falsified results in order to say that the Sunni are a minority in this country." However, member of the front and the secretary general of the Islamic Party, Tareq al-Hashimi, ruled out the convening of any talks with the United Coalition Until on the issue of fraud in the elections.
For its part, the Higher Commission For Elections announced sending five- groups of experts to the Iraqi governorates to check the credibility of the submitted complaints.
News24.com had a report that said: Electoral commission official Adel al-Lami on Saturday said the commission was investigating some 1 500 complaints, but he appeared to rule out any large-scale new polling. "If need be voting can be repeated in small areas, but there is no evidence until now this will be required," he said.
