Continued split inside the Lebanese government
Concerning the differences inside the Lebanese government, chairman of the Hizbullah bloc in the Lebanese parliament, Muhammad Raad, said that the ministers who represent his party and the Amal Movement will continue their boycott of the sessions of the Cabinet.
Raad said the obstacles which stand against the participation of the Shiite ministers in the session are not solved yet, despite the admission of Hizbullah that relative progress was made in the consultations with the parliamentary majority group of which the government is composed of.
The Lebanese prime minister refused in the few past days talks with the secretary general of Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrullah, and the leader of the Amal movement and speaker of the Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri, to rescue his government which is threatened of collapse.
President Emil Lahoud who is close to Damascus refused to preside over the session of the Lebanese Cabinet on Thursday. One associate to the president said that he could not preside over the session under the absence of a prominent team of the government.
Worthy mentioning that the two Shiite Lebanese parties suspended their participation in the government as from December 12 on the ground of a decision taken by the government's majority in which they called for the formation of an international court in order to try the executors of the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri as well as expanding the authorities of the current UN investigation committee to include other acts of assassination which occurred in Lebanon since one year.
