Expectations for the Iraqi elections results
While the Iraqi street is waiting for the results of the parliamentary elections and the shape of the new government which will be result, members of the competing lists continued to provide preliminary results saying their lists to be winners.
Adel Abdul Mahdi, the Iraqi vice president, considered that the preliminary results of the Shiite List, which he presides over in al-Nasereyah city, south of Iraq, is not far from winning the total majority. The chairman of the Higher Council Of The Islamic Revolution in Iraq, Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, forefronts the list of the United Iraqi Coalition List which is basically depending on the votes of the Iraqi Shiite south of Iraq.
Abdul Mahdi, a candidate to be the prime minister, said that his list needs 138 seats to win the majority. He added that expectations indicate that the Shiite list will win some 40 seats and about 8 to 10 seats in the governorates of Deyali, Ninwa, and Salah Eddine to have almost 115 to 120 seats (out of the 275 seats in parliament).
He explained that the Shiite list will win half of the 45 seats allocated for the parties which did not win seats at the local level of governorates, but achieved results at the national level. He said that the list will alley with non-basic lists to ensure a majority and perpetuate national unity and deal with internal problems. Among these lists he mentioned are the Kurdish Coalition, the Sunni Iraqi Tawafuq Front, and the list of the former Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi.
