Syria renews and underlines her keenness on full cooperation in the upcoming stage with the UN probe into the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri, permanent representative to the UN told the Security Council on Friday morning.

UN Security Council unanimously passed resolution 1644 on extending by six months a probe into the murder of a former Lebanese leader requesting at the same time Syria's full cooperation with the investigation.

Faisal Miqdad voiced Syria's appreciation of efforts exerted by a large number of the council member states to prevent issuing of a resolution that contradicts with the international legitimacy and the UN Security Council's role in keeping international security and peace.

Miqdad noted that "despite Syria's full cooperation with the probe, some parties, due to their narrow interests, were still insisting on not considering positively this cooperation and our implementation of the relevant resolutions" reminding that "this has come while the same parties were not exerting any effort to implement relevant resolutions into the situation in the Middle East where resolutions had been adopted over the course of 38 years.

"It is a pity that despite our clarifications of contacts march between Syria and the international committee and the efforts both sides exerted to reach to common arrangements over questioning the Syrians, some have totally ignored what we pointed out and reached using selective conclusions from the report of the committee to be used in a perverted way against my country," Miqdad said.

He emphasized that Syria held the responsibility and was sincere in that direction, due to her conviction that an objective and professional inquiry would lead to prove her innocence, and that this cooperation was not to try to please this party or that.

Miqdad deplored that some member states of the UN Security Council were not ready to be informed of Syria's messages on what she has done during the last stage. "The logic of putting pressure and trying to impose that on others does not go with principals ruling ties among states, and these ties that must be based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue and openness to the other," he said.
