Iraqi governorates aim to coordinate security, demarcate borders
Leaders of the security forces in the nine Iraqi southern governorates held a conference for security coordination among them, and drew a joint security plan to face the attacks which they said are targeting the people of their governorates.
The deputy governor of Najaf, Abdul Hussein Abtan, said that "the basic aim of this conference is to preserve the lives of citizens in our governorates which are exposed to terrorist operations continuously, targeting the Shiite," in remarks to the governorates of Babel and Karbala.
Abtan added that the conference seeks to establish the basis for forming a "security federation" and prepares for "political, economic and social conferences" so as to achieve "full confederation for the south." The participants in the first security conference for the nine governorates of the south (Najaf, Karbala, al-Qadeseyah, Babel, al-Kout, al-Muthanna, al-Basra, al-Nasereyah and al-Ammara) aimed for a united security plan in order to fight terrorism.
The participants adopted a work plan that states to demand the formation of a force from the governorates allocated to protect the area, and demanded border demarcation between the southern governorates. It also states to demand the formation of a river police rescue between Karbala and Babel.
