Sharaa Letter to UN on Palestinian issue

Originally published

Syria's Foreign Minster Farouk al-Sharaa asserted that the way for the establishment of peace and the only way out of the spiral of violence and bloodshed lie in the Israeli full withdrawal from the Arab territories it occupied in 1967.

In a letter addressed Wednesday to Paul Badji, the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, the Foreign Minister said that peace could be instituted by pursuing the path of just and comprehensive peace based on implementation of the UN resolutions, particularly 242 and 338 as well as the Madrid peace reference and the Arab peace initiative adopted in Beirut Arab Summit in 2000.

The letter, marking World Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, called on the international community to seriously work and bear responsibility towards the sufferings of the Palestinian people who come under repressive practices and systemized terrorism by Israeli occupation authorities which violate all international documents and norms.

Sharaa pointed out that more than 40 resolutions were issued by the UN Security Council and more than 600 resolutions by the UN General Assembly calling Israel to withdraw from the occupied Arab territories, but Israel does not abide by any of them.

Sharaa added that Israel insists on imposing the de facto situation through consolidating settlement activities in the occupied Arab territories and building a racial segregation wall in defiance of the United Nations resolutions.
