Tehran voices support for Damascus

Originally published

In its first reaction over pressures imposed on Syria since several months, Tehran stressed its rejection of UN Security Council resolution 1636 which was issued recently, which demands Syria to collaborate with the UN investigation committee to the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri.

The spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry Hamid Rida Asefi said "we, undoubtedly support Syria, Syria is our friend," noting that pressures made on Damascus "are unacceptable and of political intentions." Asefi added "we believe that this resolution should be realistic and not to be oppressive."
