Reactions on Mehlis report continue

Originally published

Reactions on the report of the international investigation committee into the assassination of Lebanese former Premier Rafik Hariri and the UN Security Council resolution 1636 continued Friday.

In Doha, the Syrian Community in Qatar expressed rejection of pressures Syria is exposed to, showing solidarity with the motherland.

The Community criticized in a statement the international committee's report and UN resolution 1636 on Syria saying "it is a prearranged project which aims at preventing Syria from facing plots being hatched against the Arab Nation." It called on the Arab states to stand by Syria and not allowing the US and Israel to exploit the international organization to implement their plots and projects.

In Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates "al-Bayan" newspaper stressed that Israel is the only beneficiary side from the Hariri assassination in order to keep the region instable and continue killing the Palestinians.

"Those who killed Ghassan Kanafani in Beirut can also kill Hariri... and those who assassinated innocent children in Qana have the ability to commit such heinous crime," the newspaper said in a comment.

It added that "Syria is falsely accused with this crime in order to keep the public opinion distracted from the US failure to impose the so-called democracy."

For its part,, the Kuwaiti "al-Qabas" newspaper called on the Arab states to stand by Syria in the face of threats and dangers it encounters.

"The US and Britain should understand that we will not be delayed in defending Syria," the newspaper said in an article.
