Originally published

The Iraqi President Jalal al-Talibani on Sunday called on the prime minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to work for getting Barazan al- Takriti, brother for the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, out of prison to be admitted to hospital for cancer treatment.

A statement quoted Talibani as saying "we appeal the prime minister to use his authority to get citizen Barazan al-Takriti from prison, and admit him to hospital for treatment from cancer," adding that "the new Iraq is an Iraq of humanitarian tolerance and sympathy with the patients and people in need. It is a democratic Iraq that ensures for all its citizens the right to health care and medical treatment."

Talibani expressed his sympathy with Takriti's call "from a humanitarian and human rights presepective which give the rights of medical treatment for every man, this is due to the historical relations linking their two families and in honor of a personal friendship with him for a long time."

Takriti, who is jailed with members of the toppled Iraqi leadership, appealed in a message to Talibani and Jaafari to help for releasing him so as to be able to receive medical treatment from cancer in his backbone.
