Saudi Arabia on the Iraqi constitution

Originally published

Saudi Arabia's crown prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz refused to comment on results of the referendum on the Iraqi constitution which was adopted at a rate of 78% and confined to saying "we can not judge this constitution by yes or no. This matter is of concern to the people of Iraq. "

Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz also said that it is in the interest of Saudi Arabia not to interfere in the matter and that it has hoped "for the unity of the Iraqi people and to live in one independent Arab state."

Riyadh had earlier warned against the consequences of Iran's intervention in Iraq against the Gulf states of a Sunni majority, and accused Washington of facilitating Iran's interest in Iraq.
