Nasrullah does not oppose investigation extension, Sinoura calls Lahoud to resign
While security measures and political consultations continued in Lebanon in light of the report of the UN investigation committee into the assassination of Rafiq al-Hariri, the Lebanese prime minister Fouad Sinioura launched a remarkable position on Sunday when he recommended the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud to resign from his post.
Meantime, the secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party Hassan Nasrullah expressed approval for extra extension for the work of the UN investigation committee if it is needed. He explained that the subject of establishing an international committee is not discussed now and is premature, awaiting for the results of the investigation.
Sinioura stressed that he is "against sanctions on Syria" but "supports sanctions against persons who are involved in the assassination of Premier Rafiq al-Hariri," noting that the protocol necessitates that the Syrian prime minister Naji al-Otari to visit Lebanon after the Lebanese premier had visited Damascus, adding that "Premier al-Otari is welcomed in Lebanon."
Sinoura denied his knowledge that a list of Lebanese security and political figures are banned (as part of the Hariri investigation) from traveling outside the country, adding this is not true.
