Talks between Larsen and Mubarak on the situation in Lebanon
The Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday held talks with the envoy of the UN secretary general to the Middle East Terry Rod Larsen on latest developments in the region.
Arab diplomatic sources said that Larsen's talks with the Egyptian officials dealt with the report of the UN investigation committee into the assassination of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, which is expected to be submitted to the UN Security Council in October. The sources added that Larsen also discussed the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1559, especially concerning the dismantling of Hizbullah weapons.
However, Egypt had refused during a visit carried out by the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Cairo last week what it called "the isolation of Syria " or prior accusation against it, in the assassination of al-Hariri.
