State's Hughes meets head of coptic christian church in egypt
US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen Hughes September 26 met the head of the Coptic Christian Church in Egypt, Pope Shenouda, and praised him for his efforts to build bridges of respect and tolerance.
"President Bush asked me when I began this job to try to find ways to foster and encourage interfaith dialogue and understanding and build bridges of respect and tolerance between people of different faiths and people of different countries. And I think I've seen an outstanding example, Your Holiness, of that right here in Egypt," Hughes said.
